Southern Illinois Healthcare (SIH) took an important step toward improving healthcare accessibility with the unveiling of its new Mobile Care Unit during a ribbon-cutting ceremony held June 11 at Kokopelli in Marion.

Hosted in partnership with the Marion Chamber of Commerce, the event brought together community leaders, healthcare professionals, and business representatives to celebrate a service designed to deliver convenient, on-the-go care across the region.

Matt Carnaghi, Chair of the Marion Chamber of Commerce, opened the ceremony by recognizing the significance of the initiative. He highlighted how mobile healthcare solutions can help bridge gaps in access, particularly in rural and underserved areas of Southern Illinois.

Rachel Stroud, Marketing Director for the City of Marion, echoed those sentiments, emphasizing the critical role accessibility plays in building a healthier community. She applauded SIH for its commitment to innovation and for proactively addressing the evolving needs of residents.

The mobile unit is expected to provide a range of healthcare services directly to communities and workplaces, making it easier for individuals to receive care without the barriers of travel or scheduling conflicts.

Deena Craig, SIH’s System Director of Rehabilitation Services and Occupational Medicine, underscored the value of the unit for local businesses. She encouraged employers to view the mobile care unit as a resource for promoting employee wellness, preventing injuries, and improving overall workforce health.

“This is an opportunity for businesses to invest in their teams while also improving access to care,” Craig noted, highlighting the unit’s potential to support preventative health initiatives and occupational medicine services.

The ceremony concluded with expressions of appreciation for the SIH team and their dedication to enhancing community health. Attendees also shared enthusiasm about the positive impact the Mobile Care Unit will have as it begins serving residents and organizations throughout Southern Illinois.

As SIH continues its mission to provide compassionate and accessible care, the launch of the Mobile Care Unit represents a meaningful step forward — bringing healthcare directly to the people who need it most.
