2020 Chamber Day in Springfield

Last week, a delegation of members of the Legislative Affairs Committee were joined by the Jefferson County Chamber, the Carbondale Chamber, Benton / West City Chamber, and members of the Marion business community to represent Southern Illinois at this year’s Chamber Day event in Springfield.


This is the fifth Chamber Day event, co-hosted with the Illinois Chamber and the Illinois Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives (IACCE).  We met with local elected officials, learned about upcoming legislation, discussed issues facing our region, took part in Q&As, and enjoyed presentations by House Speaker Welch, House Republican Leader Durkin, the Illinois Sheriff’s Association, the Illinois Chamber and the US Chamber’s Great Lakes office. Special thanks to State Representative Severin for the Capitol tour and meeting with Leader Durkin.

On Monday, February, members of the business community, civic leaders, and staff of Rachael Academy of Education gathered to celebrate the opening of their new facility in Marion. Ribbon Cutting guests were greeted by Chamber Board Chair Deborah Hogg. Mayor Michael Absher spoke about need in this area for additional educational and behavioral resources. Mary Anderson, Directory of the academy, and Nathan thanked their staff, interns, and community partners on their help to make this facility a reality.
