Job Posting for Programs Coordinator

The goal of this part-time position is to support Marion Chamber of Commerce programming - including marketing efforts, running membership events and supporting the organization. These efforts align with the Chamber’s mission to the Marion business community.


Primary Responsibilities

  1. Support the Office Staff, Committees, Board of Directors and membership through member-focused projects and programs. This includes monthly/quarterly member-related programs and events - and the organization of major annual Chamber events/fundraisers. This position works with key stakeholders and related committees to execute event/program details, support planning meetings, and securing financial support.
  2. Increasing the Chamber’s presence in the community through content development to support Chamber programs, services, and events. This includes:
  3. Creation and maintenance of marketing and event materials: flyers/posters, invitations, programs, brochures, and more.
  4. Development of content for marionillinois.com, the Blog, eBlasts, and e-newsletters.
  5. Management of effective social media presence on the Chamber’s social channels.
  6. All other duties as assigned.


Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  1. Project a professional company image to promote the Chamber and its mission to our members, members of the business community, and the public. Experience with events (attendees range from 5 – 500) including organization, budgeting, setup/teardown, and expectation management. Creative thinking and flexibility to use Chamber resources that will best serve member industries.
  2. Exhibit best practices in ‘print and online’ business communication. Effectively create content for print and online use with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Cloud software. Understanding website layout, content creation, and use of online platforms to create/promote content (ex: Canva and Buffer). Create report information and maintain a promotions calendar to highlight members and services/benefits on a daily/weekly/monthly basis.
  3. Exercise sound independent judgment and follow written and oral instructions. Use of tact and discretion to establish and maintain effective working relationships within the organization.
  4. Ability to work in a PC computer environment and use database/CRM systems. 

 

Working Conditions

Office environment up to 28 hours per week between 8:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday to Friday with occasional evenings/weekends. Attendance at Chamber events as needed. Ability to carry items of 20lbs to accommodate for event setup/teardown and material storage. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities.

 

Education and Experience

  1. Event / project management experience preferred
  2. High School or GED required
  3. Design samples preferred

Compensation and Application

$16.50/hourly, non-exempt employee with up to 28 hours/week. Health insurance not provided. Mileage reimbursement and professional development opportunities available. Paid time off earned based on hours worked.

Marketing Internship

Timeline: Semester: 12+ hours per week


Compensation: Unpaid/ College credit as offered by your College or University


Duties: Interns will create and implement a special marketing project tied to a Chamber program during the selected semester. Example programs include:

  • Fall: Golf Scramble, Leadership Event, and annual Awards Ceremony
  • Spring: FBLA Career Fair, Bass Tournament, Grad Spree, and Sister City program


As an unofficial staff member of the Marion Chamber of Commerce, they will be reflecting the Chamber’s mission and working to enrich the Marion business community. This position reports to the Marion Chamber of Commerce Executive Director.

 

Responsibilities

  1. Social Media Focus: mentored by the Chamber’s Programs Coordinator.
  2. Assist in maintaining a schedule and promotions program for select social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, YouTube)
  3. Explore new social media trends & platforms
  4. Marketing/Advertising Focus: mentored by the Chamber’s Programs Coordinator.
  5. Spotlight Chamber members and businesses for media campaigns.
  6. Take photos, design ads and marketing materials for distribution
  7. Participant in the Marketing Committee and other duties as assigned.


Knowledge & Skill Requirements

  1. Microsoft Office, Adobe Products, Canva and social media platform standards.
  2. Demonstrate attention to detail. Self-motivated and exercise sound judgment.
  3. Demonstrate strong written and oral communication skills, ability to work in a team environment, and learn/apply new information or skills. With the fast-paced nature of this organization, you will need to balance multiple tasks and deadlines.
  4. Interact with Chamber stockholders, including office staff, Members, Board Members, the public, and others encountered in the course of work.

Ribbon Cutting guests were greeted by Chamber Board Chair Deborah Hogg. Mayor Michael Absher spoke about need in this area for additional educational and behavioral resources.
